WOYWW 161 - I want to ride my bicycle...

Hot on the heels of Dad's retirement* is his birthday!  Always struggle with mens cards (don't we all?), but Dad enjoys a bit of cycling so I thought a card featuring a bike would be a good idea.

After a bit of google image searching I came across a bicycle dingbats font which was just perfect.  I pasted a bike into a circle, printed it off and mounted onto a scalloped edge circle.  A background of bicycle wheels was printed onto kraft card and I made a little banner with a sentiment.

Quite pleased with how it turned out :)

Thanks as ever to Julia for the lovely Woyww idea, don't forget to say hi to the rest of the gang!

*I haven't posted Dad's retirement card on here, suffice to say it was a printed image from Last of the Summer Wine, featuring bikes, my Dad and geo-caching.*

Artists at work #1

I am blog planning, not sure if it will work, but it's worth a try!

At the time of thinking/writing I am looking at a weekly post with art work by the lovely baby bugs, the usual weekly link up with Julia and the gang for What's on your workdesk Wednesday, a monthly focus on handmade finds from around the web and a weekly look around Pinterest, with other bits and bobs thrown in.  Now, as I type this sitting in a calm and quiet house it seems a good idea - though whether this works in the throws of daily life around here remains to be seen.  Off to do a bit of scheduling while the going's good, but don't hold it against me if my plan goes a bit astray, I'm keeping it real!

Woyww 160

Hello all!  Welcome to what's on your workdesk Wednesday, only this week mine has been renamed to Where is your workdesk Wednesday?  10 points and a gold star if you can spot it!
On my desk: card in progress, half cold cup of tea, handbag, lots of sweeties, hard drive, photo album, calendar, important college form that I must not lose (!), new laptop bag, massive bag of crisps, half made cut out crowns by baby bug 1 and goodness knows what else!

So, the reason my desk is in such a state since last week is the culmination of 2 on and off poorly baby bugs (i.e. feverish temperatures and then completely back to normal within half a day or so!), teething, tantrums, rainbows, tantrums, dance rehersals, tantrums, dance shows, (did I mention tantrums?)birthdays, parties, sports days and 2 nights out - it's been quite a week!  Anyway, normality seems to have returned today, just about, but let's keep that to ourselves incase anyone hears.  So I've decided that since it's my sisters birthday today and the baby bugs are away I'd better get a wiggle on and make a card!

After last weeks positive use up my stash effort I decided to go to Hobbycraft and buy some Boofle related stuff, 'cause she loves him (and I quite frankly am too tired to muster up any extra use up my stash creative juices!).  So here we are, a slight cheat with a pre-cut decoupage pack, but I'm sure she'll like it!

And in-between illnesses baby bug 1 managed to make her a card too with a hand-drawn Boofle with some flowers.

I am off to listen to some loud music now 'cause I'm in the mood after a nice birthday treat from my Mr Bug to a Combichrist gig last night.  Hopefully I'll be back after a much more relaxed week next week.  To view other desk shenanigans from around the world (it's global don't you know) drop by Julia's place!

P.S.  Thanks for all the lovely comments last week, I shall try to do some catching up now.

Woyww 159

Hi all!  June is a busy month in our family, so a good way to keep up to date with woyww!

Over the past week I have made a fathers day card and a card for my mams birthday.  My Dad is really good and DIY and very much in demand, but cards for men, well I find them quite difficult!  Anyway, off I went to raid the stash box ('cause I'm skint don't you know and can't be going out buying new stuff - booo!) and found some tool embellishements I had used to make a "Brian builds a bathroom" scrapbook (a request from my Mam when Dad installed a new bathroom suite and decorated), so I headed off to my (newly organised) scraps box found some plastic tool embellishments.  I used a tool belt, spanner and 2 nails to spell out DIY, mounted them onto some card scraps and voila!  Father's day sorted.
For Mam's birthday, I raided the stash again and found some Holly Hobby style 3D decoupage pictures (Mam likes Holly Hobby), so I duly pushed those out (they were pre-cut, yay!), added lots of tiny foam pads, stuck that onto a circle die cut, added silver dots and mounted onto some teapot patterned paper with a strip of polka dot paper behind it.

Rather pleased that my cards were ready to go in advance, meaning I don't have to sit up panicking the night before - then realised that baby bugs hadn't done any, so I know what we'll be doing at breakfast time then!

A couple more cards have been made recently for my friend's birthday and my lovely little niece who turned 4!  How cute is that little felt cupcake embellishement!

Thanks to everyone who visited my blog last week and my new followers!  For more Wednesday fun pop over to Julia's place.

Woyww 158 - scrappy dappy dooo

A quick bit of scrapbooking today while the house was quiet in an attempt to make a dent in the number of photos I have to scrapbook.  This is not actually a picture of my desk but of the finished items as all has been hurridly tidied away while awaiting the imminent arrival of the baby bugs.

Also, thanks to all who have visited my blog recently, I will try (much harder!) to visit more of you, quite honestly I don't know where the time goes. :)  If you would like to have a peek at what's on everyone else's desks then head over to Julia's page.

Woyww 155: dotty dinosaur

A quick peek at what's on my desk this week.  My best friends little boy turns 2 next week and has a thing for dinosaurs and I happen to know he will be getting some new dinosaur toys too, so what's a girl to do but make a dinosaur card.

Something quick and simple - scrapbooking paper from my stash (I'm afraid I'm not organised enough to be able to tell you who it's by though) was used to make the leaf background and a spotty dinosaur was cut with the sizzix.  A few extra leaves were cut and 3d foam pads were used to stick them on and the dinosaur.   I printed the birthday sentiment onto plain paper with brown text and a green border then mounted it onto plain brown card stock, again 3d pads were used to adhere this to the card.

I have to admit I got a bit sidetracked while the laptop was on and entered the world of pinterest.  As a result I've made a start on some weekly to do charts that I've been thinking about making and printed off a set for me and a set for baby bug 1 to help us remember what day to pack the PE kit and other such important information.

The cards I've used are actually journalling cards (from yellow umbrella designs) but I printed and laminated them and am hoping to use a whiteboard marker to write on them, just need to find a way of keeping them together and keeping them accessible.

I also came across what looks like a really good blog planner

My posts seem to be a bit sporadic to say the least, so maybe with the help of this I can be a bit more organised with my blog - I've printed it off so that's a start, but the proof will be in the blog so to speak!  So that's what's gracing my desk this week, off to pay a visit to Julia now and see what everyone else has been up to.

Artists at work - a woyww update

Further to my previous woyww post, I've managed to retrieve the retirement card made by Baby Bug 1, so I can show you how her work on one of her scanned line drawings turned out.  The original drawing was this:

which then became Rapunzel under a rainbow with a flower and hearts border.

Needless to say, Grandma Bug was very happy with her card :)

A sneak peak into the world of Baby Bugs

A couple of weeks ago we headed down to our local Mothercare store, only to find the Gruffalo was there making a guest appearance, accompanied by the girls from Kidz r Fit with some of their hoopstarz stuff.  Well what can I say, the Baby Bugs had a fab time, it was like a mini party and all free.  Even Baby Bug 2 had a go of the hoola hoop.  I did try to get a photo of Baby Bug 2 with the Grufallo but he wouldn't stand still for long enough, so there's some of him zooming about somewhere near the Gruffalo instead!  The hoopstarz craze is relatively new I think, but Baby Bug 1 had a whale of a time and they have up to date music with it too, so it's just like a disco or party.  They have started a couple of sessions quite close to use, but I'm hopeful that they will start some a bit closer and I will certainly be signing the Bugs up.

Aside from that Baby Bug 2 has been doing what Baby Bugs do - mischief!  Here he is having been sneaking around in the kitchen drawer (while I wasn't looking - you should never not look...) and rolling out a brand new roll of sandwich bags across the room, and rather proud of himself he was too!

We also made some playdough cakes and it was really cute to hear him singing "happy birthday" in his own little way when he gave me this one.

While big sister was away at school he raided her toys and had great fun playing and singing at the piano, though why toy companies think children actually need a microphone is beyond me!

I also let him loose with some bingo dabbers to play with, he seems to prefer pens to crayons (he would wouldn't he, much more messy and dangerous around the cream carpet and sofa), but don't be fooled by his angelicness on these photos; this activity lasted about 5 minutes then he got bored and threw yet another of his epic tantrums, launching the pen across the room which promptly landed nib side down on one of my cream seat pads (maybe we should just do this to all the seat pads and make them polka dots...)

Today we are having a surprise retirement party for my Mam who finished work this week, so yesterday the bugs gave me a hand in the kitchen eating making some fairy cakes and hopefully they will get time to ice them this morning.

Finally I have to share some of the latest drawings from Baby Bug 1 of Abney and Teal (from cbeebies).  I love that programme, it's nice and quiet and gentle and makes a lovely change from a lot of the really noisy programmes that seem to be on kids tv these days.

Well, almost 7am on a Saturday and I've been up for about an hour already (early alarm call thanks to some litte baby birds outside our house), and really I have been extremely lucky that none of my bugs have made an appearance yet - they usually do when I sneak up early to get something done.  Busy day ahead, so I shall best be off.  Thanks for stopping by.
