Woyww 155: dotty dinosaur

A quick peek at what's on my desk this week.  My best friends little boy turns 2 next week and has a thing for dinosaurs and I happen to know he will be getting some new dinosaur toys too, so what's a girl to do but make a dinosaur card.

Something quick and simple - scrapbooking paper from my stash (I'm afraid I'm not organised enough to be able to tell you who it's by though) was used to make the leaf background and a spotty dinosaur was cut with the sizzix.  A few extra leaves were cut and 3d foam pads were used to stick them on and the dinosaur.   I printed the birthday sentiment onto plain paper with brown text and a green border then mounted it onto plain brown card stock, again 3d pads were used to adhere this to the card.

I have to admit I got a bit sidetracked while the laptop was on and entered the world of pinterest.  As a result I've made a start on some weekly to do charts that I've been thinking about making and printed off a set for me and a set for baby bug 1 to help us remember what day to pack the PE kit and other such important information.

The cards I've used are actually journalling cards (from yellow umbrella designs) but I printed and laminated them and am hoping to use a whiteboard marker to write on them, just need to find a way of keeping them together and keeping them accessible.

I also came across what looks like a really good blog planner

My posts seem to be a bit sporadic to say the least, so maybe with the help of this I can be a bit more organised with my blog - I've printed it off so that's a start, but the proof will be in the blog so to speak!  So that's what's gracing my desk this week, off to pay a visit to Julia now and see what everyone else has been up to.

Artists at work - a woyww update

Further to my previous woyww post, I've managed to retrieve the retirement card made by Baby Bug 1, so I can show you how her work on one of her scanned line drawings turned out.  The original drawing was this:

which then became Rapunzel under a rainbow with a flower and hearts border.

Needless to say, Grandma Bug was very happy with her card :)

A sneak peak into the world of Baby Bugs

A couple of weeks ago we headed down to our local Mothercare store, only to find the Gruffalo was there making a guest appearance, accompanied by the girls from Kidz r Fit with some of their hoopstarz stuff.  Well what can I say, the Baby Bugs had a fab time, it was like a mini party and all free.  Even Baby Bug 2 had a go of the hoola hoop.  I did try to get a photo of Baby Bug 2 with the Grufallo but he wouldn't stand still for long enough, so there's some of him zooming about somewhere near the Gruffalo instead!  The hoopstarz craze is relatively new I think, but Baby Bug 1 had a whale of a time and they have up to date music with it too, so it's just like a disco or party.  They have started a couple of sessions quite close to use, but I'm hopeful that they will start some a bit closer and I will certainly be signing the Bugs up.

Aside from that Baby Bug 2 has been doing what Baby Bugs do - mischief!  Here he is having been sneaking around in the kitchen drawer (while I wasn't looking - you should never not look...) and rolling out a brand new roll of sandwich bags across the room, and rather proud of himself he was too!

We also made some playdough cakes and it was really cute to hear him singing "happy birthday" in his own little way when he gave me this one.

While big sister was away at school he raided her toys and had great fun playing and singing at the piano, though why toy companies think children actually need a microphone is beyond me!

I also let him loose with some bingo dabbers to play with, he seems to prefer pens to crayons (he would wouldn't he, much more messy and dangerous around the cream carpet and sofa), but don't be fooled by his angelicness on these photos; this activity lasted about 5 minutes then he got bored and threw yet another of his epic tantrums, launching the pen across the room which promptly landed nib side down on one of my cream seat pads (maybe we should just do this to all the seat pads and make them polka dots...)

Today we are having a surprise retirement party for my Mam who finished work this week, so yesterday the bugs gave me a hand in the kitchen eating making some fairy cakes and hopefully they will get time to ice them this morning.

Finally I have to share some of the latest drawings from Baby Bug 1 of Abney and Teal (from cbeebies).  I love that programme, it's nice and quiet and gentle and makes a lovely change from a lot of the really noisy programmes that seem to be on kids tv these days.

Well, almost 7am on a Saturday and I've been up for about an hour already (early alarm call thanks to some litte baby birds outside our house), and really I have been extremely lucky that none of my bugs have made an appearance yet - they usually do when I sneak up early to get something done.  Busy day ahead, so I shall best be off.  Thanks for stopping by.

Calling all knitters -- help the fish and chip babies

Just a quick post to any of you that can knit (I've had a bit of a try but it was all very holey and uneven). While catching up on the woyww blogs, someone mentioned fish and chip babies which sounded very intriguing, so I duly followed a link which brought me to this site here.  Basically it is a call to arms for people to knit jumpers and beanie hats for babies in Africa, many of whom are born with aids and are so poor that they are sent home wrapped in newspaper.  How heartbreaking is that?  Anyway, I felt I should help spread the word and hopefully help send a tiny bit of warmth and love to some of these babies, I hope some of you can help.  (For full details please visit the pink piggy blog).  Thank you.

What's on your workdesk Wednesday 154

I've made it back to blogger (again), not even got anything exciting to report in my absence, apart from possibly resurrecting a dead goldfish twice (but that's another story!).   So today, I decided it was about time I did some more crafting, need to get back into the swing of it (espcecially as June is a mega month for birthdays around here).

I had a retirement card and anniversary card to make today, though my mojo and inspiration seems to have disappeared lately, so they were both somewhat a bit rushed and I'm not 100% happy with them, but here you go:

And while I had the stuff out from the "cupboard of doom", I thought I should do something with the cat in the hat costume photos that have been gathering dust on my bedside table for a few weeks now, so I quickly put together a scrapbook page for that.

While debating how to produce cards etc. in a hurry, I had the idea to print off some of baby bug 1's line drawings onto folded A4 card, so we have some ready to go birthday cards, which will just need to be coloured in or otherwise decorated for those days baby bug isn't in a full crafting mood.

I've also been tinkering with picassa and my memories suite digital scrapbooking software for ways of making a mosaic frame with a centre image, think I've cracked it, but now I need some more recent and good quality photos of baby bug 2 (2nd birthday is fast approaching and I'm wanting to do a mosaic of his 2nd year and some other stuff).

So that's been quite a productive day while the bugs have been in the (much appreciated) care of the grandparents, normality shall resume tomorrow with school, toddler groups, work, dance class, rainbows and probably a few tantrums thrown in, so I shall see you anon...   in the meantime why not have a peek at what everyone else has been up to over at Julia's place?
